Comparing a building upgrade with War Academy research requires the actual requirements shown for your account. This guide is a decision worksheet, not a reviewed Helios research ladder or a universal order for spending crystals.
Keep the systems separate
Fire Crystal building progression, War Academy research and Chief Gear are different systems. Do not use “Fire Crystal gear” as a synonym for Chief Gear.
The official Chief Gear reference describes its own materials, including Hardened Alloy, Polishing Solution and Design Plans, with Amber for later upgrades. That does not establish the costs of a Fire Crystal building or a research node.
Compare two real upgrade screens
For each option, record:
| Question | What to record |
|---|---|
| What changes? | The specific effect shown, not just the power increase |
| What is required? | Every prerequisite level and research node |
| What does it consume? | Each material, resource and speedup category separately |
| What remains afterward? | Your remaining inventory and any unfinished prerequisite |
| Why now? | Your own goal and any currently eligible event mission |
This comparison may reveal a prerequisite or budget gap. It does not establish that capacity always beats stats, that one research category always wins, or that a fixed percentage of your income belongs in one system.
Know the tools' limits
The Building calculator covers listed ordinary levels 1–30, not the Fire Crystal building ladder.
The War Academy-labelled calculator currently summarizes ordinary research max-level readouts. It is not a Helios or Molten current-to-target cost calculator. Do not use its totals as the full price of a War Academy unlock path.
For T12 planning questions, use the T12 checklist to identify the evidence still needed before treating a budget as complete.
Check event eligibility separately
The SvS checklist explains why construction and research are not exclusive day labels. Match the actual action to the current mission. Do not assume every crystal or research completion automatically earns points.
What still needs review
A complete, dated War Academy tree, per-step currencies, unlock requirements and role-specific comparisons need current in-game evidence. The earlier allocation percentages, fixed research priorities and damage claims have been removed rather than replaced with another unsupported strategy.
